Bonnie and Clyde Solo Show 'This Place' at 45 Park Lane, Mayfair, London

Press release issued by Dorchester Collection:

Dorchester Collection’s contemporary Mayfair hotel, 45 Park Lane, is delighted to announce its latest upcoming exhibition by mixed media and print work artist Bonnie and Clyde, in association with Ackerman Studios and Liberty Gallery. From Tuesday, August 08 to Sunday, October 01 ‘This Place’ will showcase exclusive original works, collage, prints and dioramas as well as never seen before works from the artist created specifically for the hotel to be showcased in the public areas. The exhibition forms part of 45 Park Lane’s 2017 programme of art exhibitions curated around ‘The Uplifting Power of Art’ in association with Ackerman Studios.

Bonnie and Clyde uses photography, paint, collage and print to construct graphic mixed media pieces and limited edition prints. Inspired by everything from signage and iconography to music, film and the lives of other people, Bonnie and Clyde responds emotionally to socio-political occurrences intertwined with personal circumstances. The exhibition will showcase original collages including, ‘In Awe of it All’, a piece that builds upon notions of friendship, community and the thrill of exploration. This piece incorporates a series of self-taken photographs from a trip to Iceland. Juxtaposing awe-inspiring waterfalls against tiny, human figures; little plastic horses against Icelandic wild horses; enormous, natural vistas against collaged sections of detailed, graphic patterns, the piece is alive with flow and motion: a poignant reminder of the cyclicality of all living things. Additional pieces include ‘Waiting for the Fun to Begin’, a compilation of photographs of the Californian landscape collaged together as a celebration of California’s metropolitan aesthetic and the state’s progressive politics.

The creativity behind Bonnie and Clyde is contemporary British artist Steph Burnley whose mixed media collage and print-work centres on scenes of the urban imaginary. Steph’s work is inspired by other renowned British artists such as Sir Peter Blake, whose work is a permanent feature in the Penthouse of 45 Park Lane, as well as Tracey Emin and David Hockney to name but a few. Originally from Bradford in West Yorkshire, Steph is a keen photographer and enjoys travelling to capture images which are then appropriated into her work. Bonnie and Clyde explores the psycho-geography of the metropolis, immersing the viewer in beautiful and bizarre cityscapes.

In honour of the upcoming exhibition, Bar Manager at BAR 45, Maurizio Palermo, has created a bespoke cocktail in sensory dialogue with ‘This Place’. Inspired by the artist’s love of travel, the cocktail ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ has a Yaguara Cachaça base balanced with grapefruit juice and agave syrup. This refreshing cocktail is served in a martini glass, topped up with champagne and a few drops of absinthe.

The cocktail is priced at £17 and will be available for the duration of the exhibition which takes place from Tuesday, August 08 to Sunday October 01 at 45 Park Lane.
