They Came in Search of Paradise’ part of Maria Rivans’s Still Life Series, 'They Came in Search of Paradise’ takes its title from the iconic Bounty Bar adverts of the 1970s. Here, the slogan becomes a mantra: it’s we who are the ‘Bounty Hunters’, in search of our own earthly paradise, which Rivans offers up in this bounteous bouquet, brimming over with flowers, fruits, and fronds; birds, butterflies, and bees; and visions of the good life, from Hula dancers to pleasure pavilions. A heady snapshot of how we feel at our happiest and most abundant, 'They Came in Search of Paradise’ reminds us that the true bounty of life is to be found in simple pleasures, like ’heaven in a wild flower’, as the poet William Blake wrote – or paradise in a vase of flowers, as Rivans’s sumptuous collage shows us.
