Composed and built from photographs taken over several visits to Venice. I wanted it to hold the essence of how I feel there: loving and appreciating so much about the place, while understanding its fragility as a city loved almost to death.
The source imagery includes the colours and textures found in abundance along the streets and canals, sitting alongside the graffitied walls, and the characters who have found their way to Venice: a mime artist, a glass bottle player, the extraordinary everyday life of the Grand Canal. The piece is layered, painted into, broken up and put back together, moving in and out of digital and analogue processes over time. A large glossy painted green leaf section straddles the composition. I called it A Life You Love because that is what Venice makes me appreciate
